HELLO OTTAWA

Many old movies have jokes about people buying tickets to the ‘Policeman’s Ball’ to curry favour with the local constables.

But not the the Ottawa Police Service. It’s looking for people to receive the money it hopes to raise through its 13th Annual Gala. Last year, $59,000 was raised for The Roberts Smart Centre and The Door Youth Centre.

Recipients must be a registered charity and provide services to Ottawa. If you have a good suggestion, let the Police know here. The deadline is March 31.

As for tickets to the ball, ask your local police officer.

DEALS OF THE DAY

Get two for one tickets to the Ottawa Home & Garden Show (March 21-24 at the EY Centre) by using the code WINTER. This deal expires on Wednesday (March 6).

Sunday is the final opportunity to score Early Bird pricing for Rochon Gardens’ 2024 Community Supported Agriculture programme.

BUT, ONE MORE THING ...

Today’s the deadline to apply if you think you’re Ottawa’s Night Mayor. In addition to having a handle on the Ottawa scene, you’ll need a degree in Hospitality, Tourism, Business Administration Communications, Recreation, or similar, plus a strong background in a sector that ‘intersects with the nightlife economy’.

Candidates might find some inspiration in this proposal from Camden Council in London, UK. The famous London borough is currently going through headaches of its own in an attempt to revitalise its nightlife, with fallout from the pandemic, gentrification, and killjoys presenting the biggest threats.
