After that stormy weekend, and while the power is on right now, this is a great time to put together an emergency preparedness kit.
The City’s Emergency Preparedness page is quite interesting and includes things most people are not considering like preparedness for business for corporate documents and record or planning for rural residents.
The City has made a YouTube of what you need for 72 hours and provided a transcript here.

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

🐄 Aberdeen Pavilion

City Council has approved fixing the leaky roof of the Aberdeen Pavilion but has not provided any more or timeline. The City approved ‘replacing the upper and lower roofs, and the entranceway roof, along with repairs to the dome, turrets and cupolas, replacing the massive wooden doors with replicas (but retaining the original ironwork fittings) and rehabilitation of the concrete slab floor’. Aberdeen Pavillion is 126 years-old and has not been renovated since the 1990s. (Blair Crawford in the Ottawa Citizen)

🐟 Merivale Fish Market

The Merivale Fish Market is temporarily closed after a fire in the business next door. Smoke damage from a fire in the defunct Joe’s Pizza meant that the fresh fish had to be thrown out. The Market is expected to be closed at least two weeks. (Peter Szperling at CTV)

💰 Ottawa Train Yards

The Ottawa Train Yards shopping centre is no longer in receivership. A few weeks back, the court put the Train Yards into receivership and made Grant Thornton Limited the trustee. The owner, Controlex, has settled the financial issue and has retaken contol of the 150 shop complex. (Josh Pringle at CTV)

🌻 Retirement

Two retired civil servants from Ottawa bought a plot in Prince Edward County and opened a lavender farm. No bad news here. They bought the land, learned how to farm, became successful with lavender, and are retiring a second time. (Carly Pews in Maclean’s
