⚕️ Ottawa Public Health

• A person in Ottawa who tested positive for a mosquito-born virus has died. Ottawa Public Health says the person tested positive for eastern equine encephalitis virus. The virus can be contracted by both humans and horses but only a transmission from an infected mosquito is harmful to humans. (Josh Pringle at CTV)

💸 OC Transpo

• Mayor Mark Sutcliffe warns of a 75 per cent fare increase or a seven per cent increase in property taxes to pay for the OC Transpo budget. Sutcliffe made the proposals at a presentation yesterday, where he reiterated his belief that the provincial and federal governments are not paying their share of property taxes. 🛒 Public Service Alliance of Canada

• The Public Service Alliance of Canada has asked its members to boycott downtown Ottawa and Gatineau businesses in its fight against the extra day in the office. The Union’s original social media post advised its members to ‘buy nothing’ but has since changed the graphic to ‘buy local’. Local, in this case, means around one’s home. (Gabrielle Huston at CBC)
