Correction Reader Steven noted that we misspelt Mississauga as ‘Missasauga’ yesterday. This is surely the first and only time a misspelling or typo has ever appeared in the ottawan, and for that, we apologize. Steven did take this opportunity to note that the ‘Massasauga’ is the only rattlesnake found in Ontario and is currently on the endangered species list. – Martha and Darren 🎄More Christmas Content | - Ottawa Stats

The area was mined previously for phosphate in the 19th century, long before residential streets were laid down. While Quebéc owns the mineral rights of private land, anyone can file a claim for $75. Actually digging up the stuff, however, usually requires the consent of the land owner. (Alistair Steele at CBC)
