HELLO OTTAWA

It’s a daytime winter weather parking ban tomorrow in Ottawa. Keep your car off the streets between 10:00 am and 7:00 pm or face a tow and ticket.

The City has a list of (paid) parking and (free) community centre lots if you need somewhere to move your vehicle.

In Gatineau, today is the first day of keeping your car off the street between midnight and 6:00 am in Gatineau for snow ploughing until the end of March.

That's Sunday to Friday. On the weekend, cars must be off the street from 3:00 am to 6:00 am.  But wait: you can buy your way out of it. A winter parking permit is sold by the City for $97.75.

Quote

  • While there could be good reasons as to why Vietnam would appear more frequently on this list, omitting to highlight other countries or events where there were many victims due to communism would risk an even stronger reaction from Vietnam

  • – Unnamed Canadian diplomats in an analysis of the Victims of Communism memorial, set to be unveiled downtown this year. Some have noted that Vietnam appears prominently on the memorial, more than other countries. Others note that the Soviet Union was a Second World War ally, and Canadian commandos assisted communist Yugoslav partisans fighting the Nazis. (David Pugliese in the Ottawa Citizen)

BUT, ONE MORE THING ...

That Ottawa-based Russian activist will get her Canadian citizenship after all.

Maria Kartasheva was in the middle of her citizenship ceremony when she was pulled out by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, who said she was ineligible because she had been convicted of a crime in Russia. The Russian law she was convicted under, in abstensia, was criticizing the armed forces, something that does not have a Canadian equivalent. Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Marc Miller says Kartasheva has been invited to become a Canadian.
