It's Clean the City registration time again.

People register themselves or in groups to volunteer to clean our public spaces for the enjoyment of everyone. The City provides the bags and rubbish removal.

A new feature this year is the interactive map that shows all the registered cleaning team locations.

Registration opens today and the City should be spic-and-span before June 15.

🚨 Barrhaven Killings

•  The public funeral for the Wickramasinghe family and family friend Gamini Amarakoon will be held this Sunday.  A multi-faith service will be held at the Infinity Convention Centre on Gibford Drive at 1:00 pm. (CBC)

🗳️ Ottawa Centre

•  Ottawa Centre Member of Provincial Parliament Joel Harden has filed papers with his party to run federally. The New Democratic Party will need to select a candidate before a Federal election is held, which could be any time before the mandated date of Oct 25, 2025. The federal Ottawa Centre seat is held by Liberal Yasir Naqvi, who unsuccessly tried to move to the Provincial Parliament when he ran for Ontario Liberal leader last year.   ➕ Related Ottawa Centre Member of Provincial Parliament Joel Harden will be talking to neighbours about public transit funding at a Community Canvas at McNabb Park (180 Percy street) Saturday 11:30 am. At 2:30 pm, he’ll play host to a Transit Townhall (inside the centre, same park) for a conversation on how public transit can get back on track.

🎓 University of Sudbury

•  The University of Ottawa is making an agreement to offer courses at the University of Sudbury. The University of Sudbury was spun off as a campus of Laurentian University in 2021 after the latter went bankrupt. It also went secular after over 100 years of Catholic affiliation. It does remain primarily francophone. (Aya Dufour at CBC)

🛻 Convoy News

•  Convoy siege coörganizers Tamara Lich and Chris Barber elect to provide no defence evidence in their trial. Their lawyers reason that evidence provided by the Crown was cross-examined and there is nothing to add. Closing arguments will be held in August. (David Fraser at CBC)

It’s St Patrick’s Day and you have any number of establishments at which to spend your drinking money.

•  You be the judge at Whiprsnapr’s Mac N Cheese Cook Off and fundraiser. A $10 donation gives you free samples and the right to vote for the best. Sunday from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

•  Red Bird Live presents a Celebration with Kelly Sloan and JIG, who bring the Irish tunes and original songs to the stage.

•  The Celtic stylings of Glengarry County’s Bag on the Ear will fill the stage at the Heart and Crown on Preston.

•  While All Saints’ Manifesto isn’t doing a traditional St. Patrick’s Day party, you’ll enjoy an Irish themed menu (featuring Lamb Shank Irish Stew) to the soothing sounds of Canadian singer-songwriter duo Ronney Abramson and Jerry Golland.

•  Daniel O’Connell’s Irish Pub (1211 Wellington St. W) has an evening of live music planned.

•  D’Arcy McGee’s pubs will have live music starting at 1:00 pm, giveaways, pints of Guinness, and good pub food.

•  Brigid’s Well Pub in the basement of Saint Brigid’s Centre for the Arts will have a low key St. Patrick’s Day vibe, with lots of beers and whiskies to choose from.

•  Flora Hall’s keeping it low key with tap takeovers from out-of-towners Fine Balance Brewing, Daft Brewing (both from Kingston) and Wood Brothers Brewing (from Glen Robertson). So if you’re not one for over the top St. Patrick’s Day partying, check it out.

•  Deacon Brodies may be a Scottish pub, but they’re promising a good time for St. Patrick’s Day nonetheless. Head there between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday.

•  Hintonburg Public House will have brunch, board games, and dinner, with stouts on tap and Jameson shots for $4.

•  Moose McGuire’s in Orléans is pulling out all the stops with bands, dancers, and traditional Irish food.

•  Admission is free at the dog and family friendly Bicycle Craft Brewery. Local snacks induce soft pretzels with beer mustard. 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
  
  
  If you believe it's not a proper St Patrick’s celebration without green beer, head to one of the drinking holes who are promising pints of the emerald hued brew:

•  In Constance Bay, The Point’s St Patrick’s Day promises Irish Stew, green beer, and live music.

• Head to your nearest Royal Oak pub, where green beer, Guinness draughts and Irish food are all on the menu.

  (There may be more pubs offering green beer; check with your bartender.)

•  If you prefer to stay home you can colour your own beer with Spirdust Cocktail Sparkles in Green Pearl, $9.99 at Pot and Pantry.

   

•  For something completely different, Arts Court hosts Jam Nation: Luck of the Improv, in a special St. Patrick’s Day improv show down.
