Quote

  • When you're trying to renovate a kitchen, you have a lot of choices you can make. It’s much more complicated than a kitchen, of course, but you can scale it back, and in this case you can say we’re not doing it at all

📋 Agenda

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

📽️ Brockville

  •  The only first-run cinema in Brockville is closing next month. The Galaxy Cinemas was opened in 2006 by Cineplex and has six screens, seating over 1,000 moviegoers. Although the Brockville Arts Centre sometimes screens art films, the closest theatre to Brockvillians will be Barrhaven.  (Jack RIchardson at CTV)

🌬️ Car Thefts

  •  Ten per cen of all Ottawa car thefts in the first six months have occured in Gloucester – Southgate. Police say 831 vehicles have been stolen in Ottawa since January 1, with 87 of those in Gloucester – Southgate. Last year, 507 cars were reported stolen in the first six months of the year, and in 2022, only 387. (Josh Pringle at CTV)

⚡ Technically Beautiful

  •  The Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario has come up with $20 million to invest in Ottawa tech companies. Virica Biotech, which makes viral sensitizers, gets $1.5 million, Genvira Biosciences, which builds virus-based biotherapeutics, gets $1.75 million, and Capital BioVentures, which is kind of like a We Work for labratories, gets $5.5 million. Six other companies received repayable investments – the venture capital world doesn’t call them loans. Ranovus, which makes semiconductors, Armstrong Monitoring, which makes gas detection products, Larus Technologies, which does software analytics, ThinkRF, which does wireless monitoriing, TryCycle Data Systems, which puts mental health online, and TutorOcean, which offers gig work for tutoring.
