🗣️ Ottawa Carleton District School Board

•  The Ottawa Carleton District School Board is seeking Algonquin and Inuktitut language specialists to teach the language. Ottawa has the largest number of Inuit outside of the North. Principal of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit education, Jody Kohoko, said students ‘told us they don't want to necessarily learn the colonizers' language. They want to learn their own languages which are connected to land and their whole being’. (Benjamin Lopez Steven at CBC)

🚊 OC Transpo

•  Service was cut on the O Train between St Laurent and Blair stations Saturday after sparks were seen on the overhead wire Friday night. Maintenance continued overnight and the line was reopened yesterday. (Ottawa Citizen) 
  
  ➕ Related Twenty-five people took advantage of the new on-demand bus trial in Blackburn Hamlet yesterday. Ottawa Transit Riders notes that riders of ParaTranspo have been asking for an on-demand service for years – ParaTranpo users must book a day in advance – with no results.

⚕️ Queensway Carleton

•  Ten hours of daily emergency room physician time will be cut starting April. The cutback is due to the Province taking back the 20 per cent increase in funding it provided during the early days of COVID-19. (Elizabeth Payne in the Ottawa Citizen)
  
  ➕ Related A two year-old put an uncapped syringe in her mouth after finding it in a Civic Hospital neighbourhood playground. She was taken to CHEO for assessment.

🐈🐕 Cosmetic Surgery

•  Québec has banned cosmetic surgery on pets. This isn’t Gatineau specific but it is very interesting. Pet owners in the province can no longer, for aesthetic purposes, have vocal cord removal, ear cropping, tail trimming, or declawing on their pets. Veterinarians may still perform any of these for valid medical reasons, and there is an exception to allow ear cropping of cats in capture, sterilize, release programmes.
  
  The law also bars ‘leashing an animal without a collar, a ban on mating animals whose sizes are incompatible, and a ban on feeding meat to pet pigs’. 
  
  Ontario is now the only provice that does not bar cosmetic cat declawing.  (Canadian Press)
