| | 🌪️ Barrhaven Tornado 📱 Meta - The City will continue to advertise on Facebook and Instagram. Orléans West-Innes ward councillor Laura Dudas wanted the City to boycott Meta, the owner of the two social media sites, after it announced that it would not pay for links to Canadian news sites as mandated by a new Canadian law. Twenty per cent of the City’s public relations advertising goes to the two websites. Council voted to keep the advertising in a 12 to 10 vote. The Federal government, as well as the Ville de Gatineau have pulled their advertising already. (CBC)
☎️ Emergency Mental Health Line - City Council has approved funding a new dispatch line for mental health emergencies. The idea is specialized teams could be sent to deal with people in distress rather than regular police officers. It will take a year or so to develop the service. (The Canadian Press)
🛫 We’ll still always have Paris - Air France will continue to fly from Ottawa, at least through the winter. The airline, Ottawa’s only connection to Europe, has transported 4,000 passengers since its first flight July 27. (Josh Pringer at CTV)
🚗 Queen Elizabeth Driveway - Kitchissippi resident Mayor Mark Sutcliffe really doesn’t like opening streets to pedestrians. The Mayor thinks the closure of Queen Elizabeth Driveway on weekends disrupts traffic to Lansdowne. He previously successfully advocated reopening Wellington Street to cars. 🎧 Podcast ⛳ Lightning - Both golfers who were struck by lightning on a Carp golf course June 26 have died. The two were playing golf at Loch March Golf & Country Club during a severe thunderstorm warning when they were hit by lightning. Both were transported to hospital. (CBC)
