HELLO OTTAWA

Thank you for the emails of concern over Friday’s missed ottawan. We didn’t mean to worry anyone.

No, the ottawan company car, such as it is, was involved in an accident on Thursday and Friday was spent at the collision reporting centre in Kanata and myriad phone calls with insurance. The situation just took up the entire day.

No one involved was hurt, by the way.

Before we told Darren’s mom what happened, however, she had come up with her own theory: she assumed that we had stayed up too late watching The Gentlemen on Netflix the night before. This is true, but that's not why we skipped an edition.

🌉 Chief William Commanda Bridge

  •  The Chief William Commanda Bridge has reopened for the season. The City warns that the bridge may close again if the weather changes and it snows again in Ottawa. (Blair Crawford in the Ottawa Citizen)

💰 Ancient Parking Tickets

  •  The City says that its collection agency misspoke and old fines will be removed from credit records once they are paid. The new line from the City and Financial Debt Recovery is that the recovery company will remove debts from credit records after payment. In January, the City hired a new company to collect ancient fines whereupon the company immediately reported over 100,000 people to the credit bureau. (Guy Quenneville at CBC)

🔥 Ottawa Fire Department

🥌 Women's Curling World Championship 

  •  Team Homan has won the Women's Curling World Championships for Canada for the first time since 2018. The Ottawa-based team beat Switzerland 7-5 yesterday. (Gregory Strong at CBC)

🐈 Ottawa International Airport

  •  A search is on the find a pregnant cat lost in the Ottawa International Airport parkade since Thursday. Boots the cat was travelling to a shelter here, where it escaped its carrier, after being found in a Winnipeg landfill.  Furry Tales Rescue is offering a $1,000 reward. (Marlo Glass in the Ottawa Citizen)

🏠  Vacant Unit Tax

  •  Almost all residential owners filled in their Vacant Unit Tax declarations before deadline. The City says 98.2 per cent have been completed, or 321,800 forms. Everyone else gets a $250 fine, and the declarations must be filled out before April 30. (Ted Raymond at CTV)
