New ARCAL in Beloeil (CSB3)
Something new (invisible) at St-Mathieu de Beloeil airport!
Following the instability of the old ARCAL, a new ARCAL was installed. Have a good night flight!
For more details:
The ARCAL of CSB3 is type K with 3 levels:
Three radio pulses (PUSH TO TALK, PTT) at a rate faster than one per second activate the ARCAL at the low intensity level. When ARCAL is activated, the low intensity level is not perceptible, and therefore useless.
Five radio pulses (PTT) at a rate faster than one per second activate the ARCAL at the medium intensity level. It takes approximately 15 seconds for the runway lights to come on.
Seven radio pulses (PTT) at a rate faster than one per second activate the ARCAL at the high intensity level. It takes approximately 15 seconds for the runway lights to come on at full intensity.
Once the runway lights are on, it is possible to adjust their intensity. Thus, if the intensity of the fires is high, it is possible to switch to the low intensity level by making three radio pulses at a faster rate than one pulse per second. The intensity of the fires will gradually be reduced to low intensity over the next 60 seconds.
Same with five radio pulses to obtain the average intensity. It is always possible to return to the strong intensity of the fires by producing seven radio pulses.
To avoid any confusion with the ARCAL pulse counter, you must wait more than 15 seconds between each attempt to change the intensity of the runway lights. Avoid large series of radio pulses to force the ARCAL to turn on. Proceed with seven consecutive pulses then wait at least 15 seconds before trying again. A choppy radio communication can be interpreted as pulses by ARCAL.
ARCAL remains in service for 15 minutes after activation. Each time a new series of radio pulses is decoded by ARCAL, the timer is reset for another 15 minutes.
Finally, ARCAL is only available when ambient light is reduced, generally after sunset (do not order a photosensitive probe).
