Not one but two food-forward events take place that day: the 2024 Festival of Flavours will bring vendors to Main Street, while the Vankleek Hill Lions Club’s 4th annual Garlic Farmers Market (admission by donation) at École élémentaire catholique St-Grégoire offers the chance to meet local growers and vendors of garlic and associated products.  
• Dominion City’s 10th Birthday bash has moved forward by one day to Friday September 6 for weather reasons. The fun starts at 3:00 pm with Chef T and the BBQ Joint onsite. From 8:00 pm onwards, expect blast-from-the-past snacks like Burnt End Egg Rolls, Deviled Eggs, and roller hot dogs. The crowning jewell of this celebration has got to be Deck Ade, DCB's anniversary IPA.
• Peter Hum in the Ottawa Citizen has spent four years creating his definitive guide to Where to eat BBQ in Ottawa. On his plank are: Junior and the Kid BBQ at the Orléans Farmers Market, Meatings, Lexington Smokehouse and Bar, Smoque Shack, Moe’s BBQ, Dickey’s BBQ, and Smokin’ R&Rs BBQ.
•  Danielle Jeffery in Eat the Strip has eaten the anda shami burger at Baa Desi Dine ‘too many times to count’. It is comprised of ‘minced lamb and yellow lentils, cooked together with ginger, garlic, onion, mint, chilies and other classic subcontinental spices’, dipped in egg, and fried. 
• Jill Wherrett in the Mainstreeter has given herself the terrible task of reviewing Old Ottawa East’s croissants.

• Pour info, Outaouais restos, the Michelin man is coming around. Québec as a province will be the third region in Canada to be awarded Michelin stars for exceptional restaurants. The other two are Toronto and Vancouver. And like Toronto and Vancouver, Michelin is being paid to drop by, in this case $550,000 from tourism and economic development groups. The first awards will be announced next year.

  Ken Gray at the Ottawa Bulldog says that at some previous zoning meetings, City officials have stated that recordings are not allowed. As Gray correctly advises: ignore them. These are public meetings.

✏️ Federal Public Employees

• Catherine Morrison in the Ottawa Citizen has six items public employees should know about the new return-to-office mandate.
  
  1️⃣ It applies to all core public administration staff employed under the Treasury Board, the National Research Council of Canada, Parks Canada, the Communications Security Establishment, the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada, the Office of the Correctional Investigator, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and the Canada Revenue Agency.
  
  2️⃣ The only exceptions are for those hired remotely before March 16, 2020, Indigeous employees whose ‘whose location is critical to their identity to work from their communities’, and those who work more than 125 km from the office.
  
  3️⃣ Can one be fired for not returning to the office? Yes, after all the intermediary steps have been taken.
  
  4️⃣ The decision to return was made for ‘team building’.
  
  5️⃣ The Public Service Alliance of Canada is fighting this both internally and in the courts.
  
  6️⃣ The Canada Revenue Agency seems to be dragging its heels over bringing employees back into the office.

🚌 Renfrew County

• Renfrew County students started school without school buses today. The Renfrew County Joint Transportation Consortium did not want to pay the money requested by the private bus operators, leaving 10,000 students needing to find other transport.
