Between December 2025 and March 2026, Parks Canada is planning to complete more than 100 hectares of tree removal and brush clearing. This adds to the more than 400 hectares (an area nearly twice the size of the Municipality of Jasper) of forest that have been thinned or cleared on Pyramid Bench since 2018.
Proactive wildfire risk reduction work can help prevent or slow the spread of fires and gives fire management personnel more time to make critical decisions when attempting to contain a wildfire, reducing risks to people, communities, infrastructure and the environment.
Work could begin as early as December 10, 2025, and continue until as late as April 2026. More details on timelines will be provided on our website and Facebook page.
What to expect:
- Operational hours: Work will take place 7 days a week, with the potential for extended hours and nighttime operations
- Visible smoke: Pile burning may produce visible smoke near the townsite
- No need to call emergency services: These are controlled fires and there is no need to call emergency services to report smoke in the area
- Respiratory concerns: People with respiratory ailments are encouraged to contact local health professionals for advice if they have concerns
- Noise: Chainsaws and heavy equipment will be used during operations
- Increased traffic: Logging trucks and other heavy equipment will be used at the wildfire risk reduction areas along Pyramid Lake Road and the Cabin Lake Fire Road
Please note that ATCO has scheduled work along Pyramid Lake Road this winter, which may cause traffic delays. More information will be shared as it becomes available.
