Except that second part is not true – it’s a scam. If you’ve received a demand for payment by text – complete with payment link – from the City, it’s fake. The City only send out tickets by post. It’s become such a problem, that the City has had to send a press release out about it. – Martha and Darren | Number - 100

This is the second year of the festival, which has a line-up of panelists and food courts. Its promotions mention sponsons like the Hill Times newspaper, Syracuse PBS station WCNY, and the Ottawa Public Library – none of whom were aware their logos were being used.
Former Much Music VJ Bill Welychka, who was to be the compère for the show, dropped out after learning several of the panelists were Convoy-affiliated, like Tom Quiggin, People’s Party leader Maxime Bernier, and former Member of Provincial Parliament Randy Hillier. The Ottawa International Writers Festival released a statement explaining that the Expo had nothing to do with them, and pointing out that the Expo had a deceptively similar website URL. (The Writers Festival is writersfestival.ca, the Expo is ottawawritersfestival.ca) (Luke LeBrun in Press Progress) (Ottawa International Food and Book Expo) 🏫 Ottawa Carleton District School Board - The Ottawa Carleton District School Board has announced the names of two new schools. The new school in Findlay Creek will be named Mino Miikan Elementary School, Mino Miikan being ‘the good path’ in the Algonquin language. The new school in Stittsville will be Maplewood Secondary School and is named after maple trees, really, because we can only assume that the naming committee needed to go home early. (Josh Pringle at CTV)
📋 New Embassy - Premier Doug Ford announced a new Regional Office in Ottawa today. The Regional Office will ‘support greater engagement with both municipal and federal governments and play an important role in implementing the new deal, advancing shared priorities and ensuring that Ottawa’s unique needs as Ontario’s second-largest city and Canada’s capital are addressed and supported’.
Reading the press release, we’re not quite sure what the new office is going to be doing. Wait, here’s some more: ‘This office will provide Ottawa’s municipal government with a central link to the premier, cabinet and government. It will help ensure that the needs of Ottawa residents, including workers, families, business owners and more, are understood and met at the provincial level. It will also provide the province with additional resources to ensure Ontario’s needs are properly understood and addressed by the federal government.’ Clear as mud. The new office will be led by Sean Webster, who doesn’t have a title. (Province of Ottawa) 🎳 Bowling - The former Future Shop in Kanata will become a Splitsville bowling alley. The new bowling alley will have 18 lanes of 10 pin bowling with lane-side food and drink service. Splitsville Kanata will open in the autumn. (Ottawa Business Journal) (Splitsville)
