đ Agenda | WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT | đš Ottawa Police Service - The Ottawa Police Servicesâ new four quadrant strategy will start this week. In a reshuffle of bureaucracy that is intended to create more responsibility, each of the four districts wil have an inspector who will be the point of contact for city councillors and community partners.
The new districts are: West: Wards 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 23 East: Wards 1, 2, 10, 11, 18, and 19 Central: Wards 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17 South: Wards 3, 20, 21, 22, and 24 (Ted Raymond at CTV) - Chief Eric Stubbs says that it will take years to build up policing in the Parliamentary precinct. The plan is make it a fifth district, added to the four above. The latest Federal budget included $50 million over five years for the Ottawa Police for VIP protection and protest responses. đȘ§ University of Ottawa - Students have set up an encampment at the University of Ottawa. Leaders of the encampment want to know if the University has any investments with Israel and, if it does, to divest itself of it. The University has not spoken to the encampment leadership but has said it will not tolerate an occupation. (William Eltherington at CTV)
â Roundabouts - Neighbours in OrlĂ©ans showed their disdain for a proposed roundabout at the intersection of Jeanne D'Arc Boulevard and Fortune and Vineyard drives. The roundabout is intended to make it easier for buses to access the Jeanne d'Arc O Train station. Some neighbours complained that they will receive too much bus service, others think that it is dangerous to kids at a nearby elementary school. (Safiyah Marhnouj ·at CBC)
đłïž Ville de Gatineau - A former mayor of Gatineau will run in the mayoral byelection. Yves Ducharme was mayor 2002 to 2005, and mayor of the former city of Hull from 1992 to 2001. A byelection was called for June 9 after the incumbant France BĂ©lisle resigned suddenly in February. Also running are âStĂ©phane Bisson, Mathieu Saint-Jean, Daniel Feeny, Remi Bergeron, former Carrefour-de-l âHĂŽpital councillor Olive Kamanyana and Maude Marquis-Bissonnette of Action Gatineau.â (Josh Pringle at CTV)
