| | ⚖️ Convicted in Absentia - The University of Ottawa professor on trial in Paris in absentia has been found guilty. Hassan Diab was charged with taking part in a 1980 bombing of a Paris synagogue and extradicted from Canada in 2014, where he waited in jail for three years. Diab returned to Ottawa in 2018 due to lack of evidence. The new trial was based on discovery of a passport that showed entry and exit from Spain to France. Diab, who did not leave Ottawa, maintains his innocence, stating he was writing exams in Lebanon at the time and the passport in question was lost. (Angelique Chrisafis in The Guardian)
🌊 Ottawa River Rising - The Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board says the rising waters will plateau over the weekend. Although much depends on rainfall over the next 72 hours, it is still believed that flooding will not reach the devastating levels of 2017 and 2019. (CBC) (Forecasts)
🚌 ParaTranspo - ParaTranspo has finally deigned to accept Presto cards and credit cards on minibuses and taxis. Debit is still not accepted but may be included in the future. People who get a Community Pass or EquiPass discount will need to phone OC Transpo to register their Presto card. (City of Ottawa)
🏒 LeBreton Flats Arena 🔎 Neville’s Creek - History buffs Urbsite have written up the life of the Neville's Creek area, between Waverley and Gilmour, near the driveway. Orginally tiny framed cottages, the Federal District Commission wiped them away for industry, and eventually a modernist classic, the Canadian Nurses Association House, was built. Now that is to be demolished for condos. (Urbsite)

- Today and next Saturday (April 29) the Urban Art Collective Art Hub is holding Fundraiser Parties for the DISRUPT Street Art Festival (May 27 and June 3). Take part in the Art Hub Community Portrait Wall at the parties: Print the Template, and draw your art in the square. Monday Just Announced / Now Booking - The Warehouse Art Party by Studio Space Ottawa is a fundraiser by artists to build more studios for artists. Friday May 5, 6 pm to 10 pm at Studio Space Ottawa. This won’t just be a stand-around-with-a-drink-in-your-hand affair. You’ll be invited to experience live model drawing, pottery wheel throwing, printmaking and lots of other creative pursuits.
