After steamrolling the Lansdowne 2.0 concept plan through, City Hall is asking after-the-fact about how transparent, easy to access, and meaningful for residents was the community engagement and consultation process.

If you have an opinion on how the Lansdowne 2.0 process went, the City will be happy to hear from you here.

Take note that, unlike most surveys, there is an 850 word preamble explaining what a good job the City did listening to people.

•  Maker Feed Co in Cumberland continues to impress with creative culinary experiences. Their latest announcement is a case in point: a Tequila Tasting Menu Evening on Thursday July 18. Learn all about the infamous nectar as you chat with chef Michel Gaumond and sommelier Ben Jean and savour five food and tequila pairings.
•  🆓 Vegans Who Snack Food and Art Festival is back at the Parkdale Public Market site, and this time around in addition to the fantastic range of food vendors and art, the Grove Studio (78 Hinton Ave N.) is providing a low sensory space for those who need to take a little break. Storm date (keep an eye on VWS’s Insta feed for updates): Saturday June 1.
•  Visit Cumberland Farmers’ Market’s annual Spring Market on Saturday (June 1) for vendors like Piggy Market, Covenant Springs Farm, and Dunrobin Distilleries. With vendors inside and out, you’ll need at least an hour shop as well as a big reusable bag. 1115 Chemin Dunning, K4C 1P6
•  The Cadman Bagels on Carling was robbed at 3:00 pm in the afternoon last Friday, with much vandalism. The robber was arrested.
•  Peter Hum in the Ottawa Citizen loved the Persis Grill at Bells Corners but hated the Persis Grill on Preston Street. The Orléans outlet was in the middle. Regarding the Bells Corners’ location, Hum says ‘I had perhaps my best Persian meal in Ottawa to date’. But at Preston Street, he says of a striploin steak’s accompaniments and brown sauce, ‘low-grade banquet’. 
•  Ameya Charnalia at Eat the Strip had been disappointed with the lack of authentic Punjabi fare in the capital, but now his favourite Indian restaurant in Ottawa is Brampton Authentic Indian Foods. Despite the name, it’s not in Brampton, it’s in Nepean, but named for the vibrant Punjabi community in that city. ‘The goat curry is a must-try’, says Charnalia.
•  Toronto radio station Indie 88 continues its review of Ottawa restos with ‘The 7 Best Vegan Restaurants In Ottawa’. According to the Centre of the Universe, the best vegan joints are The Green Door, Pure Kitchen Elgin, Govinda’s, Peace Garden Vegetarian, Wolf Down,  Astoria Bistro Botanique, and NAMASTE Vegan.
•  Another chic design tastemaker is raving about ‘The Retro Charm of Ottawa’s Buvette Daphnée by Ivy Studio’, this time Nuvo magazine.

🎫 OC Transpo

•  Joining the 21st century at last, OC Transpo is now accepting debit card taps on buses and the O Train. The system will charge the adult fare of $3.80, but will automatically cap it at the daypass rate for multiple trips, and at the price of a monthly pass. Paying by debit card is not connected to the Presto pass at all, so if you use both they won't align. (Gabrielle Huston at CBC)

💨 Queensway 

•  Three climate change activists caused thousands of cars to idle in  place for over an hour on the Queensway. A man and a woman from Québec and a man from Toronto climbed onto signs above the Queensway near Woodroffe going wast, Woodroofe going east, and Pinecrest Road going west. Presumably they were short a friend for the other direction. Traffic was halted as the Ottawa Fire Services rope team rescued them. All three have been charged with mischief and common nuisance – endanger life. (Alex Black and Natasha O’Neill at CityNews)

💰 City Councillor Pay

•  The City is reviewing the mayor and city councillor’s salaries, as well as the salaries for assistants and office expenses. In a memo sent to council members, the City will hire an independent third-party to review the salaries of the mayor and council, and in addition, ‘conduct a custom market survey assessment to benchmark salaries and responsibilities for Members of Council against those of comparable municipalities across Canada’. ⚽ Northern Super League

•  Ottawa is getting a new professional women’s soccer team in the just-announced Northern Super League. The six clubs will be Ottawa, Montréal, Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, and and Halifax. The league says that it omitted the word ‘women’ in the name to declare ‘its ambitions to be equal to other leagues in professional sports’. Kickoff begins April 2025. •  All Hands on Deck, billed as the World’s Largest Skateboard Deck Art Show, returns to Beyond the Pale with an astonishing 248 boards that have been transformed by local artists. More than an art show, it’s an auction supporting Ottawa charity Operation Come Home, which runs programs designed to prevent homeless youth from becoming homeless adults. The auction ends at 8:00 pm Sunday and while you can see small versions online when you bid, it’s best to view all the boards in person at the brewery.

•  The Ottawa Riverkeeper Gala is one of the highlights of the Ottawa Spring social calendar with food, drink, performances and dancing, and it all happens in front of a pretty breathtaking view of the Ottawa River.
