âȘïž Reader Guillaume G. notes that while the Alexandra Bridge will be closed to motorists October 2 until Autumn 2024, pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to use it.

| âȘïž On the item that said the Ottawa River is the deepest river in Canada, reader Alison G. asks âWhich part of the river is the deepest?â
The deepest part is at 318 feet, between Hawkesbury and the Carillion Hydroelectric Facility, at Greeceâs Point, QC.
âȘïž Reader Anne J. emailed us this snippet from the Ottawa School of Art homepage in reference to Oscar Wildeâs lecture tour: In 1882, celebrity Oscar Wilde visited Ottawa where he met the Director of the newly established Ottawa Art School, a talented painter and individual of remarked beauty, Frances Richards. According to author Sandra Gwyn in her book The Private Capital, Wilde was smitten with Frances and urged her to visit him in England, which she did a year later. In 1887, around Christmas, she painted his portrait and according to London art critic, Christopher Millard, this was the inspiration for Wilde's novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray. When the sitting was over and Mr. Wilde had looked at the portrait, it occurred to him that a thing of Beauty, when it takes the form of a middle-aged gentleman, is unhappily not a joy forever, Millard wrote in 1890. What a tragic thing it is, he exclaimed This portrait will never grow older, and I shall. Sadly, this portrait has long since disappeared.

| đ 24 Sussex Drive - A non-profit group says 24 Sussex Drive can and should be saved as the official residence for the Prime Minister. Historic Ottawa Development Inc., which includes architects, conservationists and project managers, says the state of decay is exaggerated and the building is of heritage value. In particular, they note:
- âIt shouldn't take millions of dollars to clear out dead rats and squirrels in the wallsâ
- Removing asbestos and replacing outdated electric systems is already under way
- In a Westminster system of parliamentary democracy, official hosting duties should be held by the Kingâs representative at Rideau Hall anyway. Britainâs Prime Minister holds official galas at Buckingham Palace, not the 10 Downing Street terrace house.
- It should cost much less than the National Capital Commissionâs stated price tag of $36 million to renovate 24 Sussex into a family home.

The Federal government changed extended insurance for 1.5 million employees to Canada Life Assurance Company from Sun Life Financial in July. - Over 4.3 million hours of time off has been granted to employees as compensation for Phoenix Pay System screw ups. According to a 2019 agreement, employees could claim up to five days of paid leave. (Sam Konnert at CBC)
- One hundred and twenty Canada Revenue employees are no longer employed after claiming CERB payments. Canada Revenue employees were not disqualifed from the COVID-19 employment benefit but the 120 did not meet the qualifications. (Daniel Leblanc and Peter Zimonjic at CBC)

Lansdowne 2.0 is a proposal by Ottawa Sports and Entertainment to have the City co-finance ânew South Stadium Stands, new mixed-use retail and reimagined public realm spaces and subterranean parkingâ for them. đ Shopify - Shopify has made a deal with Amazon for its shopping cart to be used with Amazonâs independent sellers. Local mom-and-pop business Shopify had appeared to be planning to compete with Amazon for the heart of independent sellers, who use Shopify or Amazon to handle the shopping cart part of their website businesses. But now that Shopify had left the delivering merchandise business, Amazon is starting to let Shopify customers use that software to manage their Amazon account as well.
