Safety capsule: Altitude density and performance of your aircraft

In these hot and humid weather, we thought we would remind you of the negative effect of density altitude on the performance of your aircraft.

The performance of your device depends on airport altitude, ambiant atmospheric pressure, temperature and humidity. If these parameters increase, the lift, rate of climb and power of your engine will be reduced. The only thing that increases...is your stall speed. So in hot and humid weather you lose on all counts.

Consult your POH to understand the performance curves of your aircraft. This will allow you to make an informed decision before your takeoff.

Here's a classic example, with some tips, courtesy of Flight Chops:

Our best advice is the 50/70 rule. If you have not reached 70% of your takeoff speed at 50% of the available runway length, you should abort your takeoff.

TSB Report A23Q0069 : Mid-air collision during a training exercise

With the RVA season beginning, TSB report A23Q0069 reminds us of the risks and their management in the approach phase to an uncontrolled aerodrome.

RVA: the season was launched in Saint-Jean

The first RVA of the season was held in Saint-Jean last weekend. A classic organized by the APPH Saint-Jean-sur-RIchelieu (CYJN)

A great day with volunteers from the St-Jean Airport Pilots Association. Michel Chartier accompanied by his grandson Jérémy was on hand to represent Aviateurs Québec who is one of the sponsors of this event. Lots of good food, smiles and great encounters. Thanks to Lady Weather who was also there. Once again a big thank you for the wonderful organization of this event by the members present and for this great success.
