Reader Marissa wrote in with more on the issue: ‘Since you linked to the Save Plouffe Park campaign, I wanted to share the link to the ‘French Public Education Matters’ page which details the need for a new building for the local French public school, École élémentaire publique Louise-Arbour. The crux of the problem is that Chinatown/Hintonburg/Little Italy need to maintain greenspace and parkland, and a new building for the school must be built. - – The cost of the new Ottawa Police Service building in Barrhaven. The new detachment, to be built from the ground up, will house the traffic unit, the marine unit, special events, a new 911 call centre, a collision reporting centre, and the records management unit. All the kiosks are now closed but the company hopes to return. The City is considering a new rent scheme based on ridership.
- The chef de cuisine at Carben Food+ Drink in Hintonburg, Khalid Farchoukh, won the Great Kitchen Party (Ottawa edition) last week. Farchoukh’s winning dish featured ‘a slab of grilled corn on a crisp slice of beef-fat brioche, dusted with smoked, shaved beef heart and accompanied by lime gel, fermented romesco sauce, corn husk emulsion, bone marrow, corn miso glaze and puffed sorghum’.

📋 Agenda | WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT | 🚌 School Buses - The Ottawa Student Transportation Authority has announced some of its plans to resolve the lack of buses fiasco. The Authority, owned by the Ottawa Carleton District School Board and the Ottawa Catholic School Board, plans to investigate whether the Coach Lines company can provide shuttle service, change stops, or reassign students to OC Transpo. In the next month, it plans to advertise for new drivers. The current semester ends December 23. (Ted Raymond at CTV)
🏘️ House Shortage - Developer says that GST break means it will build 1,000 rental units in Ottawa. Last week, the Federal government introduced a 100 per cent GST rebate for new rental buildings. Condos have had a GST rebate for years. Toronto’s Dream Unlimited Corp will partner with Multifaith Housing Initiative to build the units. Forty per cent are expected to rent either 33 per cent or 45 per cent below market value. (The Canadian Press)
🚨 Centretown - The new mental health emergency service programme will trial first in Centretown. The new service will have a non 911 number, and professionals in mental health and substance abuse would be dispatched. The City will request proposals from non-profit organizations to lead the project next week. Centretown was chosen due to community need and central location. (Blair Crawford in the Ottawa Citizen)
🚨 Dr. E Couture Municipal Child Care Centre - Ottawa Police have cleared a staff member at the Dr. E Couture Municipal Child Care Centre of abuse. The City was informed last week that a staff member was suspended from the child care centre while police investigated an incident. The police now say the allegation is unfounded. The City says that it has no comment until after the investigation by the Children's Aid Society of Ottawa is concluded. (CBC)

Friday - Pumpkins After Dark celebrates Halloween in a big way, with its walk through a pathway of lit, hand carved pumpkins synchronised music and special effects.
