Well. Some readers did not appreciate yesterday’s subject lline on your daily ottawan. If you recall, it read ‘Welcome back to work, Civil Servants’. Some readers read that ‘work’ as a verb, ‘Welcome back to work’, as in it's been a three year vacation at home but now get back to actually doing some labour. One reader pointed out that even some in government have been using the phrase ‘return to work’ to try to convince the public that Civil servants have not been doing anything at home. Of course, we didn't mean that. The subject line – which Martha and Darren regularly spend minutes dreaming up – referred to yesterday being the first day that many Federal civil servants were mandated to come back to the office for two or three days a week by the Treasury Board. We meant ‘work’, the noun, as in the place to which Federal civil servants now must spend time and money traveling. | | | 🏛️ Heritage Committee - The City has reconstituted its Heritage Committee. It will now report directly to City Council instead of being a mere sub-committee of the Planning and Housing Committee. The new rules are: the committee will only deal with issues that involve the Ontario Heritage Act, it will be comprised of five councillors (one must also sit on the Planning and Housing Committee, one on the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, and at least one councillor’s ward must encompasses a Heritage Conservation District) plus four members of the public, all of whom must have heritage experience and one must live in a Heritage Conservation District. 💰 Canada Revenue Agency - The Union of Taxation Employees is looking for a 29.5 per cent increase in pay over three years. The ask is for an increase of 4.5 per cent the first year and eight per cent for each of the following two years. There would would also be a one-time nine and a half per cent increase on signing. The Canada Revenue Agency has not yet made their offer. The Union is planning to hold a strike vote after January 31. (Andrew Duffy in the Ottawa Citizen)
💗 Fundraiser - The son of the late CTV Ottawa anchor Max Keeping, Shane Holley, is in a medicially induced coma after surgery for ulcerative colitis.
