📋 Agenda

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

⚡ Battery Farms

  •  A company that wanted to place a battery farm outside rural Ottawa is pausing because of pushback and a death threat. This isn't the company that wanted to place the batteries in West Carleton and Mannotick. Baseload Power wanted to build in Elizabethtown-Kitley 100 kilometres south of Ottawa. After a rambunctious meeting and little support from the town, it has pulled out. (Guy Quenneville at CBC) (The proposal)

⚕️ Ottawa Public Health

  •  Ottawa Public Health is laying off most of its COVID staff and wrapping up its immunization programmes. The Ontario government will stop reimbursing health units for extraordinary costs related to the pandemic by March. In January 2022, Ottawa Public Health had 4,400 employees. This autumn, it had 1,100. This January, it will have 105 COVID related staff out of 511 employees. (Elizabeth Payne in the Ottawa Citizen)

➕ Related More people find out that they have been removed from the Ontario family doctor waitlist because the Appletree walk-in clinic has rostered them.

🚨 Ottawa Police Service

  •  Ottawa Police officers have been cleared for ignoring unresponsive man in their custody. Despite at least two check-ins by officers, a man arrested for assault was lying unresponsive on the floor of his cell for over an hour. When an officer noticed his laboured breathing, he was sent to hospital where he died five days later. The Special Investigations Unit said there was no basis for criminal charges. (CBC)

🛫 Ottawa Airport

  •  Lynx Air is the latest discount airline to fly from Ottawa Airport. Starting next May, Lynx will be flying to Calgary and Vancouver. Using the discount code OTTAWA, we see that a one way trip is as low as $119. Darren flew Lynx from Vancouver to Toronto once and it was fine. (Lynx Air)

🗳️ Ottawa Centre

  •  Residents of the Federal Ottawa Centre riding get to keep their Member of Parliament, Yasir Naqvi.  Naqvi had been running for leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, which announced the winner Saturday. The current mayor of Mississauga, Bonnie Crombie, is the new provincial Liberal leader. Naqvi came in third. (The Canadian Press)

🏠 Property

  •  Ten houses one could buy in Ottawa for $1 million. This monthly link is always a crowd pleaser. (Josh Pringle at CTV)

🪧 Parliament Hill Protests

  •  Buses booked to take Torontonians to a rally on Parliament Hill to show support for Israel against Hamas failed to show up. The seventeen buses were booked and paid for in advance. The operator has not said why. The rally is at 1:30 pm today. ( John Paul Tasker at CBC
