🛻 Convoy News

  •  The hearing against an Ottawa Police Service constable who ran an unauthorized does-the-COVID-19–vaccine-cause-child-death investigation has begun. Constable Helen Grus, a detective with the sexual assault and child abuse unit, is accused of accessing child death cases on which she had no authority and contacted the father of a deceased child to ask about the mother’s vaccination status. Grus has been charged with discreditable conduct. Supporters of Grus packed the hearing room and held placards outside. (Joanne Laucius in the Ottawa Citizen)

🎭 Ryan Reynolds Way

  •  The first round of houses on Ryan Reynolds Way have been sold but more will be built soon. The City approved naming a road after the actor in recognition of his contributions to life in Ottawa. The street has been assigned to the new Cassette development in Orléans. (Josh Pringle at CTV)

🌊 Dundonald Park

  •  Hundreds have signed a petition against a kids splashpad in Dundonald Park in Somerset Ward. While the splashpad has already been approved, some residents want it stopped so a new, different vision of the park can be created instead of adding things piecemeal. City Council will discuss it Wednesday. (Lynn Saxberg in the Ottawa Citizen)

🚚 King Edward Avenue

  •  Expect delays on King Edward Avenue as the National Capital Commission conducts an inter-provincial truck survey. The company hired by the Commission will be stopping – voluntarily – commercial trucks to better understand how they are moving around downtown, Lowertown, and cross the Québec/Ontario border. Drivers who fill out the survey will receive $25 Amazon gift cards. The two week survey begins today. (Josh Pringle at CTV)

    ➕ Related The Champlain Brige partially reopens today after repairs and updates were finished early. The bridge will remain closed 10:00 pm to 5:00 am nightly for continuing work.

  •  Ottawa Street Markets have fresh Niagara peaches at the Farm Store today from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, 1805 Gaspé Ave. They also have Ontario apples, bans, beets, tomatoes, and many other seasonal veggies. Enjoy the proximity of the RCMP horses while you shop in person, or head online.

Nadia Doucoure was our Ottawan of the Day awhile ago, and now Tim Baines in the Ottawa Citizen has a feature-length article on ‘How a rugby player from France became the second full-time female coach in CFL history’. That rugby player was Doucoure, by the way. It started when she was on a train in France and through the window saw a bunch guys playing a sport that kind of looked like rugby, but wasn’t.
