🌊 Ottawa Carleton District School Board

• A report has found that drinking water in Ottawa Carleton District School Board school exceeded federal safety guidelines for lead in one third of tests. 5,300 tests were done between 2019 and 2023. The Board says that problems were fixed each time they were discovered, and some results were because of still water in schools closed because of COVID 19. (Joanne Laucius in the Ottawa Citizen)

⚫ Experimental Farm

• The City will be hiring consultants to determine what effect development will have on the Experimental Farm. Two residential developments have already been approved, despite the Farm warning that shadows could affects its operations. (Ted Raymond at CTV)

📱 Federal Public Employees

• Federal Public Employees will not have the ‘right to disconnect’ like everyone else when a new policy goes into effect. The Federal government is issuing a new policy that all businesses in Federally-regulated sectors must come up with policies that allow employees to ignore work related communications when they are not at work. However, Public Employees will be excluded from that policy. (Catherine Morrison in the Ottawa Citizen)
  
  ➕Related The Treasury Board says the Federal government is planning changes to allow employees like firefighters, paramedics, and border services officers to retire with full benefits, even if they have not put in 25 years. This will not apply to those who do not work on the ‘frontlines’.

🌉 Rideau Canal Bridge

• The pedestrian and cycle bridge over the Rideau River connecting Carleton University to Vincent Massey Park will open Saturday. Opposite side ward councillors Riley Brockington and Shawn Menard will cohost a grand opening at 11:00 am on the Vincent Massey park side. (Twitter)

⚡ Battery Storage

• The largest battery storage system in Canada will be built in Spencerville, an hour south of Ottawa. Battery storage systems buy electricity cheap from Hydro One at night and resell it during the day at higher prices. Two systems have been proposed in both west and east Ottawa but has fallen foul of rural residents concerned about safety.  (Peter Szperling at CTV)
