📋 Agenda | WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT | 🔥 Ottawa Hospital General Campus 🙏 Elegy - Inderjit Handa, founder of early health food stores in Ottawa, has died aged 85. Handa, a vegetarian, was dismayed by the lack of food options in the late 1960s. In 1974, he opened Handa Natural Foods at the Billings Bridge Shopping Centre. Soon he opened a second store on Bank Street, then a new chain of travel agencies. Handa’s voyage to Ottawa started when his family was forced to move to India after the partition with Pakistan. En route to a job offer in the US, he stopped in Ottawa to visit cousins, one of whom convinced him that staying in Canada's capital was a better idea than continuing to Ohio. (Andrew Duffy in the Ottawa Citizen)
🔒 Ottawa Schools - An Ottawa teacher has been suspended for two days after holding a locker door shut on a student. A twelve year-old boy at the Collège catholique Franco-Ouest in Bells Corners was demonstrating how he could fit in his locker when the teacher told him to get inside and held the door shut for two minutes. While the French Catholic school board agrees that this was inappropriate, it will not transfer the teacher to another school as requested by the boy’s parents. (CBC)
