• Watch these local athletes at the 2023 FISU Winter World University Games, January 12 -22 at Lake Placid, NY. Jessie Mulloy of Carleton Place, who attends University of Edinburgh in Scotland, will be playing for the GB women’s hockey team. U of O student Aurélie Dubuc of Trois-Rivières, QC, is on the goaltending squad of the Canadian women’s hockey team, which is coached by Ottawa Gee-Gees’ head scout Greg Bowles. U of O and Carleton U are represented on both the men’s and women’s Cross Country ski teams as well. Aidan Marler of Carp takes one of the spots on the Men’s Apline Skiing roster. 🚊 O Pain

•  OC Transpo says the O Train will be back in full service at the end of today. The  line has been closed between uOttawa and Tremblay stations for nearly a week after the system broke during freezing rain. (CBC)

🚆Via Rail

• Anyone who had their VIA Rail travel disrupted should receive automatic compensation from the company. Hundreds of people traveling between Québec City and Windor – we’re dead centre — had their trains cancelled or stuck in the middle of nowhere between Dec. 24 and 26. VIA Rail says it is hiring outside experts to review its actions. (CBC) 

🚨 Police are doing automatic license plate checks

• Ottawa Police have noted that they have their new automated license plate readers and will be doing a blitz for people who have not done their free online renewal. The Provincial government removed the requirement for license plate stickers, and the $100 fee, last year but motorists are still required to go online and tick a box or face a $110 fee. (Megan Gillis in the Ottawa Citizen) (License plate renewal)
