📋 Agenda | WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT | 💰 Ottawa Budget - City Council has approved the 2024 budget. No changes were made except for an increase in spending on affordable housing units. The proposed budget said $15 million, City staff recommended an increase to $24 million, but Council approved a $30 million. (Arthur White-Crummey at CBC)
➕ Related City Council also approved the $415.5M police budget, with its increase of $13.4 million over last year. 🚊 OC Transpo - Ottawa City Council voted against freezing fares for 2024. Despite transit being a service with customers that have been let down greatly over the past two years, Council instead approved a 2.5% fare increase starting Jan 1.
Voting to increase fares were: Cathy Curry, Catherine Kitts, Marty Carr, David Brown, Wilson Lo, David Hill, Glen Gower, Allan Hubley, Clarke Kelly, Laura Dudas, George Darouze, Steve Desroches, Matthew Luloff, Tim Tierney, and Mayor Mark Sutcliffe. In a year-end report from the LCBO, tequila purchases had gone up everywhere in Ontario – but not here. 🛫 Ottawa International Airport - The Manitoba Métis Federation is incensed that the Ottawa International Airport have cancelled its billboards at the behest of the chief of the the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg community. The Federation has had the large paid advertising signs at the Airport for the past 13 months, with a tagline identifying it as the National Government of the Red River Métis. The Airport says the Chief told them the sign was political and offensive, and thus against Airport advertising rules. (Daisy Woelk at Global News)
