Grade 11 & 12 students! Sign up for work experience with WCK summer day camps

The district is offering a Work Experience 12 course, in partnership with the West Coast Kids Cancer Foundation (WCK), for students entering Grade 11 and 12 to lead summer day camps for youth navigating childhood cancer and blood disorders.

The day camps run from July 11-22 at Simon Cunningham Elementary and will provide opportunities for secondary students to explore possible career options, develop personal and professional growth, and increase confidence, practical skills and self-awareness. The course allows students to earn four credits in Work Experience 12 while gaining valuable experience to add to their resumé.

Students must be at least 16 years old and have a parent or guardian’s written permission if under the age of 19. They must also arrange their own transportation, demonstrate exemplary attendance, have experience using technology to communicate and attend an interview session with program instructors, among other requirements.

For youth age five to 12 with cancer or blood disorders who are interested in attending the day camps, enrolment is free, with camps taking place July 4-9, 11-15 and 18-22, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The deadline for work experience applications is April 14, with training sessions on June 25 and July 4-8. Applications are available from your school’s Career Facilitator or Career Centre Assistant, or by contacting Paul Bruce at bruce_p@surreyschools.ca
