Thank you Union of BC Municipalities for highlighting our work to make our budget process and costs to taxpayers transparent and easy to understand. Did you know? We make easy-to-read graphics and content to share exact tax rates for services in our 10 Electoral Areas and 11 Member Municipalities. This work led to the TNRD receiving the 2024 "Excellence in Governance" award at the 2024 UBCM convention. This award is open to all municipalities and regional districts in B.C. and there is only one award winner chosen each year. Read the UBCM's recent article, which is linked in the attached post.
The Thompson-Nicola Regional District won the 2024 Excellence in Governance for its commendable work on transparent communications and education on taxes. Making taxes into a compelling communication is not an easy task, and TNRD did it with clarity and transparency to encourage public involvement in the often obfuscated budget process. Materials produced as part of the TNRD's budget process last year went a long way to helping residents understand what their taxes are used for, and 'who does what' in BC public services. https://ow.ly/i6x550UpxqC
