Nooks and Crannies Festival

The Nooks and Crannies Festival of Recycled Art kicks off on Saturday, July 22 and will run until August 26. Check out the 18 installations throughout downtown Okotoks, where artists have repurposed and animated small spaces with recycled materials. Grab your map and scavenger hunt clue sheet at the Okotoks Art Gallery starting on Saturday, July 22 to participate. More details can be found below.

Last Minute Ice

Looking for ice time? Rent a full sheet of ice to leisure skate or bring your stick and pucks to play for one hour. Off-season ice times are offered outside the regular hockey season until August 31. Pre-booking is required and you can find available times below.

Wednesday Walkabouts

Wednesdays from July 26 to Aug. 30, 10am

Join Kathy Coutts of the Okotoks Museum and Archives for free guided tours of Okotoks every Wednesday this summer. Tours start at 10 am and will be approximately 1.5 hours. Meet at the museum, 49 North Railway Street.

Tour themes are as follows:

  • July 26 - Municipal Heritage Designated Sites
  • Aug. 2 - Planes, Trains & Automobiles
  • Aug. 9 - Significant August Events from WWII 
  • Aug. 16 – Historic Elma Street
  • Aug. 23 – Setting Up Shop – Early Businesses & Industries
  • Aug. 30 – Downtown Public Art

Alberta Summer Games Facility Closures

The Alberta Summer Games are here (July 20 to July 23) and that means there will be changes to the schedule at the Okotoks Recreation Centre!

  • Natural High Fitness Classes are canceled from Thursday, July 20 to Sunday, July 23 (Gym remains open)
  • The pool will be closed Friday, July 21 to Sunday, July 23
  • The gymnasium is closed Wednesday, July 19 starting at 1:00pm to Sunday, July 23.

Registration for fall 2023 programs is coming up on Thursday, August 17 for residents of Okotoks and Foothills County and Thursday, August 24 for non-residents.

Courses will be available to view online at activeokotoks.ca on Monday, July 24 so you can start to plan your fall schedule!

Blackfoot Style Hand Drum Making Workshop

During this workshop you will learn about the Blackfoot history of the hand drum, enjoy a demonstration of singing, followed by an opportunity to make your own hand drum, which you can take home with you! All materials included.

Community Fitness: Outdoor Fun at the Olde Towne Plaza

July 26 to Aug. 23 | 6:30 to 7:30 P.M.

Whether you’re on your own, or have a couple of kids that like to have fun alongside you, this class will have you moving and grooving to the beat with Pound® fitness using lightly-weighted drumsticks, and finish with 30 minutes of Zumba®.

Okotoks Museum Exhibits and Events

The Games We Play: A History of Sports in Okotoks 

July 8 to December 22

Sports have always played an integral part in the town’s history. This new exhibit is just in time for the 2023 Alberta Summer Games co-hosted by Okotoks and Diamond Valley July 20 to 23.

As we celebrate and cheer on our current athletes, this exhibit allows us to reflect on past athletes and the games they have played.

The Full Moon & Blue Moon Ghost Tours

Tuesday, August 1 and Wednesday, August 30

There are two full moons in August – a full moon and a blue moon! Discover what lurks downtown after dark during the annual Full Moon Ghost Walks, hosted by the Okotoks Museum and Archives and the Okotoks and District Historical Society. Three tour times are available each night. Tickets are $5 (+GST & ticketing fees) and are required in advance. Get your tickets online at the link below.
