September 2021

Isn’t this just the best time of year! The fruit is ripening in the orchards, the leaves are changing color and the cooler fall weather brings me outside to enjoy running, biking and hiking. This time of year is filled with reconnecting and engaging with all of our returning and new students, staff and faculty. The campus is truly reinvigorated with energy. While it brings about so many positive feelings, it can also stir up anxieties as well. As more of a natural introvert, I prefer to re-charge with physical activity that connects me back to nature and helps to settle my mind. The trails on campus are especially great for this in between classes or meetings. For you, the changes brought about by moving into a new home, starting a new program, returning to campus, meeting new friends or trying out a new activity can also bring out strong emotions. No matter what changes are occurring in your life, be sure to take a moment to pause, to assess your own wellbeing, and then find ways to allow yourself to thrive. I strongly encourage you to thrive by engaging in physical activity, it is a great way to move your body, rest your mind and revitalize your spirit.

Over the past few weeks there have been many changes and our department is doing everything that we can to ensure that you are able to participate in the same Recreation experiences that you’ve all come to love. Our incredibly devoted and talented teams (both students and staff) have been working tirelessly to make sure that everyone can safely participate, have fun and make friends in the process. We are excited and incredibly grateful to welcome you back to Recreation. Here’s to the start of a wonderful year!

Move. Play. Train.
