Event feature: Workshops on decolonial and anti-racist approaches to wellbeing

Faculty and staff are invited to rethink and reimagine what wellbeing looks like in their personal and professional lives through a decolonial and anti-racist lens. These 2.5-hour sessions — held over three months and facilitated by one of Canada’s most influential speakers, Larissa Crawford from Future Ancestors — will help participants identify opportunities to advance anti-racism, decolonization, and Indigenization at UBC.

If you want to help create just, sustainable, and ethical relationships between UBC and the communities they serve, this workshop series is for you. Please feel free to share this with your colleagues and networks.

Dates:

  • Wednesday, July 20 from 12 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, August 31 from 12 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, September 2 from 12 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Please note, participants will need to commit to all three sessions and registration closes on July 20. Recordings will be available between sessions, but everyone who registers is expected to have participated in previous sessions. This allows the host to build on previous topics and facilitate a more relational dialogue on this meaningful and complex topic.

ASL Interpreters will be available for all three sessions.

Celebrating Pride Month

June is Pride month, an annual event celebrating LGBTQ+ rights and raising awareness of the work that still needs to be done. Check out these helpful articles —from our EFAP provider, LifeWorks — to gain a better understanding of how to be a better ally and support your LGBTQ+ colleagues.

Not sure how to access LifeWorks? Take a look at our EFAP page for more information on the program and details for signing up. Once signed in, you may need to click on the link again to be directed to these articles.

Indigenous History Month

Throughout June, UBC celebrated Indigenous History Month with a range of events across both campuses.

It might be too late to attend these events, but you can still revisit this guest post, showcasing Indigenous leaders in health (and connected with UBC) who have worked to help keep British Columbians safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
