National Day for Truth & Reconciliation and

International Pain Awareness Month

Hi ,

September marked two important events that we would like to acknowledge. The first being the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation that happened yesterday, September 30th. This date coincides with Orange Shirt Day and also takes place during the International Pain Awareness Month.

The Action Plan for Pain in Canada identifies the important work that needs to be done to support Indigenous hurt and healing, throughout all six of the goals outlined in the report.

John R. Sylliboy and Margot Latimer are co-chairs of CPN's Indigenous Health Research Advisory Committee (IHRAC). In June, the IHRAC team led the second National Gathering for Indigenous Clinicians in Mi'kma'ki to build on the work of this Network from it's first gathering in 2023. Land based activities were hosted in the communities of Membertou and Eskasoni First Nations, where attendees saw first hand the work being done in community, by the community.

We look forward to highlighting the work of this committee in future editions of CPN's newsletter.
