Hello Everyone,

Hope you have had a wonderful first half of May!

Exciting news to share - with the success of the Good Call Action Series, we have a new opportunity for Alums and current Cohort members to be part of creating the next grassroots intervention Action Series, Well-Planned, focusing on Medical Goals for Discharge. There are several ways to get involved, including attending the Well-Planned Summit Event - June 26th 2:00-5:00pm. We are recruiting 2-3 physicians to join our planning team (up to 15hrs May-August). It's an awesome way to grow your skills with funding and support, more details available here or you can reach out to Adele or Julia. If you are interested in joining the planning team, let us know by May 27th at 9:00am

Reminder: there is still some time to send your ideas for MoH Innovation Funding  to  
innovation@islandhealth.ca, the Innovation Consultants will help you complete the proposal form and can answer any questions. For more details check out the Innovation Pathway Program Guide and the Providence Health Care Medical Staff website.

Dr. Tom Lloyd: Self and Relational Awareness Workshop

In late May, Island Health is excited to host Dr. Tom Lloyd for two day-long workshops open to medical staff and medical leaders. This learning workshop is co-funded via the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on Physician Psychological and Physical Safety and will be an opportunity to learn new leadership skills, alongside 35 medical staff peers from across the Island. Key goals include strengthening team building skills in healthcare settings and promoting psychological safety in teams – whether you are in an informal or formal leadership role.

 

Title: Medical Staff Workshop: Self & Relational Awareness in the Workplace

Speaker: Dr. Tom Lloyd, LLM, MB ChB, MD, MRCS, MFFLM, COC, originally trained in the UK in General Surgery before becoming a medicolegal advisor at the Medical Protection Society (similar to the Canadian Medical Protective Association - CMPA) in London, UK. After several years with CMPA and Director of the Saegis Safety Institute, Dr. Lloyd transitioned to work as a consultant for healthcare professionals looking for personal growth and to hone their leadership skills. He also works with healthcare teams looking to improve communication and collaboration.

Please note: Sessions include identical content on both days. Select one date based on preferred venue location when you RSVP.

* Tues, May 28th - 8AM to 4:30PM - Laurel Point Inn, Victoria

* Wed, May 29th - 8AM to 4:30PM - Vancouver Island Conference Center, Nanaimo

Please RSVP with your preferred date to medstaffcommunications@islandhealth.ca. As small to medium-sized group sessions are preferred for this learning style, spots will be on a first come first serve basis.

This full day session is in the process of accreditation with UBC and as a result, is not a compensated training session. Full agenda to be circulated. Each session has up to 35 seats for medical leaders/ medical staff. Includes light breakfast and lunch.

Well-Planned Action Series 

Following the success of the Good Call Action Series, Medical Staff Quality, Physician Quality Improvement Alums, and Patient Access and Flow teams are developing a new grassroots intervention Action Series to improve communication among participating teams around medical goals for discharge called “Well-Planned”.
