2023 Member Club Grants

Our next round of Member Club Grants is just around the corner! The 2023 application window will be open from April 1st to April 30th.

Our annual Member Club Grants support club-initiated projects around the province including trail upgrades, backcountry huts, equipment, community events and so much more. 

Want to donate to the Member Club Grant fund and have a direct, positive impact on the quality of outdoor recreation in BC? You can make a donation and a tax receipt will be automatically issued. Thank you for your support!

Mountain Matters

Call for support from the Outdoor Recreation Council of BC in partnership with FMCBC and others

ORCBC staff and member representatives from several outdoor recreation organizations, including Liz Bicknell, President of the Federation of Mountain Clubs of BC, met with Minister George Heyman and Parliamentary Secretary Aman Singh from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy at the Legislature earlier this month. They discussed a new provincial recreation strategy and support for BC's community-based recreation groups.

The BC Budget was released on February 28th and reported an investment of $70 million in operating funding and $31 million in capital funding over three years at provincial parks and other outdoor recreation sites and trails. There is an increase of $40 million dollars (over three years) than what was projected in last year's budget.

Pacific Northwest Outdoor Association (PNOA) helps members manage outdoor risks with avalanche skills training

FMCBC Member Club Pacific Northwest Outdoor Association (PNOA) organized a two-day avalanche skills training level 1 (AST1) course in February 2023 to help members understand and manage the risks of outdoor activities, remove unknown barriers, and build confidence for future activities.

American Trails Webinar: Using a Digital Platform to Connect Trails to Tourism

This webinar will explain the importance of integrating trails into a region's tourism network and highlight the Outdooractive platform & technology as one powerful tool to accomplish this.

American Trails and the Professional TrailBuilders Association (PTBA) have joined forces to co-host the International Trails Summit (ITS) in Reno, Nevada during the week of April 17, 2023. This combined, high-impact event will convene a diverse trail and outdoor community to learn, build relationships, and find solutions to the challenges of developing and elevating outdoor recreation opportunities for all. 

Announcing The VIMFF 2023 Film Award Winners

The Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival expert-led jury watched almost 100 amazing films from the Fall Series and the films selected for the VIMFF main festival this month, to select the award winners. The jury had their work cut out for them, with close to 100 amazing films from around the world.

Forest Practices Board Names New Chair

The Forest Practices Board has announced that Keith Atkinson has been appointed as chair of the independent forest auditing and investigating body for a three-year term, effective Wednesday, March 1, 2023. The BC Forest Practices Board conducts audits and investigations and issues public reports on how well industry and government are meeting the intent of B.C.͛s forest practices legislation.

BC Budget 2024 Consultation

The Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services will be holding several public hearings to hear from British Columbians about their priorities for the next provincial budget. Public hearings are anticipated to take place in late May and June and will be a mix of in-person and virtual (video/teleconference) meetings.
