This Week...

An open fire ban is currently in effect, National Drowning Prevention Week is underway, and Aquatic Adventures is coming up at Beban Pool for some family-friendly fun. Read on for more!

The image shows a red background with a silhouette of trees and flames, indicating a fire. On the left side, bold black text reads 'OPEN FIRE PROHIBITION' and below it, in white text, 'Coastal Fire Centre.' On the right side, there is an outline map of British Columbia with the Coastal Fire Centre region highlighted in yellow and orange.

Open Fire Ban

An open fire ban is currently in effect! This means campfires and other activities such as sky lanterns, burn barrels, etc. are not allowed. Did you know that open fires are the leading cause of human-started wildfires in our province? The good news is — they’re completely preventable.

Every human-caused fire takes valuable resources away from fighting naturally occurring wildfires, especially during peak fire season. That’s why fire bans and restrictions are sometimes put in place. They’re a key tool to help reduce the risk of new fires, especially when lightning storms are expected or when wildfire conditions are already critical.

Let’s all do our part to keep our communities and forests safe!

Throughout the week, the City’s Water Safety Team will be out in the community sharing educational resources and tips to help residents stay safe around water. Keep an eye out for them at local pools, parks and waterfronts, and take a moment to learn how you can stay safe.
