As part of the Community Climate Action Plan (CCAP) update, we want to hear your ideas for climate action and how we can create a plan that improves how we live, work, and play in Squamish. Participate by completing a 5-10 minute survey to share feedback and ideas for climate action.

The survey is now available in multiple languages, simple select your language in the top banner, and the project and survey will automatically be translated.

After completing the survey, enter your email for a chance to win a $100 gift certificate to a local business!

SHIFT INTO WINTER

As we shift into winter, the District of Squamish Public Works Department has a few important reminders to help keep our community safe and running smoothly.

Fallen leaves can create slipping hazards and clog drains during winter storms. Please avoid blowing leaves onto sidewalks or into the streets, as sidewalks need to be kept clear and safe for pedestrians.

With the first snowfall reaching town this week, it’s time to bring basketball hoops, hockey nets, and skate ramps off the streets and onto your property. This will ensure plows and salt trucks can safely and efficiently clear your neighbourhood.

NOTICE OF TRAFFIC AND NOISE IMPACTS

FORTIS BC PROJECT

Fortis BC is conducting pre-construction activities along Finch Drive. Crews will be undertaking work to help identify the location of existing underground utilities in preparation for construction of the Eagle Mountain gas pipeline.

This work will result in single-lane alternating traffic along Finch Drive. The work is expected to continue until the end of November and will take place Monday to Friday, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and, if required, on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

CLEVELAND AVENUE

There will be intermittent single-lane closures, sidewalk closures, and detours along Cleveland Avenue, Loggers Lane, and Pemberton Avenue from November 22 to December 15. These traffic disruption will occur on weekdays only, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., to accommodate crews monitoring wells.

Additionally, on Wednesday, December 11, and Thursday, December 12, there will be a night closure from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on the Loggers Lane merge with Cleveland Avenue.

Signage and detour wayfinding will be in place where traffic disruptions occur. Thank you for your patience as this work is completed.

SQUAMISH HOLIDAY PARADE

The Downtown Squamish Holiday Parade is happening on Saturday, November 30. Parking restrictions and road closures begin at 2:30 p.m. along Cleveland Avenue. Additional accessible parking will be available on Second Avenue, outside Stan Clarke Park. Please note: The bus stops at Cleveland at Victoria and Cleveland at Winnipeg will be closed during the event. A traffic management plan will be in place to ensure safety and accessibility.

DEVELOPMENT REVIEW

LATEST INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS

ANNUAL WATERMAIN UPGRADES

Watermain flushing is underway.

Flushing helps remove stagnant water and unwanted build up in the pipes. During this process, you may notice brief periods where the water appears cloudy or discoloured or has a mild chlorine taste. However, the water remains safe to drink. If you experience any of these issues, simply flush your taps by running water until it clears.

Changes to the District's Short-Term Rental (STR) licence and fee categories to help streamline the STR administration process was adopted by Council on November 5 at the Regular Council Meeting following a review by staff.

Starting January 1, 2025, new and existing STR licences will be charged at the following rates:

  • Short-term Rental Accommodation for Principal Residence $400; or
  • Short-term Rental Accommodation for Non-Principal Residence $3,000 (licences with a TUP for secondary suites or accessory dwelling units).

Existing STR licences that previously fell under the categories below will be moved into the new Principal Residence category for 2025:

  • Monthly Licence for Shared or Private Room.
  • Annual Licence for Shared or Private Room.
  • Monthly Licence for Entire Dwelling Unit.
  • Annual Licence for Entire Dwelling Unit.

The fee for Non-Principal Residence category has not changed.

For any questions regarding the 2025 STR licence and fee change, please email planning@squamish.ca.
