New Personal Support Workers Tax Credit

The Government of Canada has introduced a new Personal Support Workers Tax Credit (PSWTC), available beginning with the 2026 tax year. The credit is available to eligible workers who meet the criteria established by federal legislation and the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

What is the Personal Support Workers Tax Credit?
The Personal Support Workers Tax Credit is a refundable federal tax credit available from 2026 to 2030. Eligible workers may claim five per cent of eligible earnings, up to a maximum of $1,100 per year.

Who may be eligible?
Generally, the credit applies to workers who provide direct, one-on-one care and support to individuals in eligible health-care settings, including hospitals, long-term care, residential care, community care, and home care environments. Eligibility is determined by the Government of Canada based on the duties performed.

How do I claim the credit?
Eligible employees must:

  • File an annual income tax return
  • Review their T4 slip for a new "Other Information" code identifying eligible earnings certified by their employer

Tetanus Diphtheria Pertussis (Tdap) Immunization

Effective August 13, 2026, the new CS-CP-0091 Tetanus Diphtheria Pertussis (Tdap) Immunization is available for implementation. Primary Health Care and Acute Care leaders will determine the appropriateness of implementing the medical directive within the clinical area they lead. Communication of this decision within care teams is imperative to safe patient care and provider practice.

  • The clinical procedure supports Tdap vaccine administration under the authority of a physician order, order set, or medical directive.
  • The medical directives authorize trained Health-care Professionals (HCPs) working in certain settings to independently administer Tdap in accordance with the Ministry of Health guidelines in the Saskatchewan Immunization Manual (SIM). Refer to the Medical Directives and the CS-CP-0091 Tetanus Diphtheria Pertussis (Tdap) Immunization for the criteria and use of the medical directive, physician order or order set.
  • Refer to the Clinical Team Members and education and training sections for the initial and ongoing competency requirements for each HCP that this procedure is applicable to.
  • The following additional new resources were developed to support Tdap immunization, education and training. The resources are available on the Tdap Immunization Clinical Resources page. Contact clinicalstandards@saskhealthauthority.ca for any further questions.โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹
