Dear Timberlea-Prospect Residents,
Historically, Nova Scotia was viewed as one of the more affordable places to live in Canada.
But, as the cost for necessities including shelter, food, health care, and medications continues to soar, Nova Scotians no longer enjoy the sense of security they had in the past living in this province.
The results of a surge in people moving to Nova Scotia, the lack of adequate housing to accommodate the rapid population growth, and the notable low incomes Nova Scotian receive across all sectors, has led to a large percentage of families struggling financially.
With an addition $ 3.4 billion more than expected dollars in taxes and revenues collected by the government, my colleagues and I were happy to finally see some of the budget ear marked to help Nova Scotia families by implementing a few of our ideas in the provincial budget.
Reducing income taxes and providing a universal school lunch program will ease some financial constraints but there is still a lot of work to be done, and my colleagues and I will continue working on our vision to return Nova Scotia an affordable province again.
Closer to home, I am pleased to announce the first BLT Food Pantry is up in operation. Thank you to all those who donated food during my community skate on Heritage Day. The first panty is located next to Timberlea Dental and the next one coming soon will be next to the constituency office in Beechville. This is a wonderful community initiative that I am pleased to be a part of but it is sad to see this help is needed more and more.
As we approach March 17th, I extend my best wishes for Happy Saint Patrick’s Day and the as the Old Irish Blessing goes, “May you have all the happiness and luck that life can hold – and at the end of your rainbows may you find a pot of gold”.
Best wishes,
