TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES

Essential Computer Skills for the Workplace (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

Upon completing this training, participants will learn Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.This five-day online course is offered by DIVERSEcity’s Skills Training Centre. Learn general office administration and computer skills for the workplace using advanced computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Eligibility: Please check with your case manager/ employment counselor.

Sources Empowered for Employment: ADMIN & ACCOUNTING WORKS

Admin and Accounting Works is a FREE 11-week program for mature workers 55+ who aspire to return to the workforce with newfound knowledge, skills, and confidence to work in Office Administration. Training and certification include Word, Excel, and Introduction to Accounting Principles, Bookkeeping, and QuickBooks, provided by Vancouver Community College. Career Strategies; career planning, occupation & labour market exploration, and business communications.

B-Hired Program

This cohort-based program consists of 5 weeks of online classes on techniques and strategies for finding a job and is followed by a further 5 weeks of supported job search/work experience placement. Work experience may be paid work, wage subsidy, or internship. This allows individuals to gain local experience and earn a good reference. This program is open to job seekers who are unemployed or under-employed. Participants can receive Short Term Certificates related to their job target based on labor market demand and will receive a Training Allowance of $600 upon completion of Phase 1 & 2 of the program. They will be eligible for a further $300 Completion Bonus upon passing the job placement probation period.

SKILLS FOR TODAY’S WORKPLACE

Skills For Today's Workplace is a FREE 11-week program for individuals who have been impacted by Violence and/or Abuse to explore work interests, and gain marketable skills and increased confidence to successfully re-enter the workforce. The program is delivered virtually. Require a computer, camera, microphone, and internet. Start Your Success Story With Us!  Our Empowered for Employment programs support job seekers facing barriers to employment to obtain skills training and achieve employment.

Immigrant Women Trades Apprenticeship Program (IWTA)

The IWTA project focuses on recruiting, retaining and helping women apprentices in five identified Red Seal Trades in British Columbia: Carpenter, Plumber, Welder, Construction Electrician, and Construction Craft Worker. It is a 10-week program (6 weeks of skills training and 4 weeks of work experience) that supports immigrant women apprentices from intercultural equity-deserving groups who are underserved, and facing multiple barriers to employment in these Red Seal trades in British Columbia.

Retail & Warehouse Employment Program - STE

This program is designed to empower eligible participants, especially Recent Immigrants, Refugees, and Visible Minorities with limited Canadian education and language proficiency. Through a comprehensive approach, including multilingual in-person, online, and hybrid services, the program addresses barriers such as language skills, lack of local work experience, and limited employment skills. Focused on Mainland Southwest and Thompson-Okanagan, participants will graduate with a post-secondary credential, equipped with foundational knowledge and skills for the retail or warehousing industry.
