Welcome to the 'Remembering' edition of Myles Ahead's curated Educator Resources. The links below include recommended resources to commemorate Veterans' Week, Indigenous Veterans Day, and Remembrance Day.
Educator Resources:
Curated by Veteran Affairs Canada, this link contains classroom resources, lesson plans, and activities to commemorate Veterans' Week (Nov. 5-11).
November 8th is Indigenous Veterans Day, which was first recognized in Winnipeg, in 1994, when Indigenous Veterans were not recognized in Remembrance Day activities. This video includes stories by First Nations Veterans of Nishnawbe Aski Nation, bringing greater awareness of their contributions to the "wellbeing of Canada as a whole."
This year's Remembrance Day, November 11, 2021, marks the 100th anniversary of the Remembrance Poppy in Canada. This videoprovides an overview of the poppy's history, reminding us to "never forget."
