Travel reimbursement is available for two representatives, one per BC First Nation school and one per First Nation, to attend their nearest session. Event Details | | FNESC First Nations Languages Conference Oct. 7-8, 2019, Vancouver This special conference happens every two years and it is a major networking and professional development opportunity for all individuals involved in the vital work of First Nations languages education and revitalization. The conference theme, Xay Sts’itsáp – Carrying on the Sacred Work, is a Skwxu7mesh phrase inspired by the work of the late Snítelwet-t Dr. Deborah Jacobs. Registration is now open. Event Details | | Indigenous Adult and Higher Learning Association AGM and Conference Oct. 17-18, 2019, Richmond Educators and administrators from BC's Indigenous-governed institutes and their partners will gather at the IAHLA AGM and Conference to explore the conference theme, Successful Institutes Under a BC Tripartite Post-Secondary Education Model. The event will highlight the work underway by BC First Nations and First Nations-mandated institutes to develop a BC Tripartite PSE Model, which will include funding, policy, and program delivery, as well as mechanisms to ensure the public post-secondary system is responsive to the needs of First Nations learners. For event updates or to apply to present a workshop, contact iahla@fnesc.ca. | | FNESC 25th Annual Indigenous Education Conference Nov. 28-30, 2019, Vancouver The FNESC 25th Annual Indigenous Education Conference draws over 800 attendees to share their knowledge and enthusiasm for advancing quality Indigenous education and supporting First Nations learners to reach their full potential. Our theme, Meeting Diverse Student Needs, will focus attention on how we can better meet the needs of current and former youth in care in the education system, implement effective Local Education Agreements, create inclusive and responsive learning environments, and develop quality First Nations language and culture programming.
