Dear Bedford Basin residents,

The last few days have been unprecedented and even shocking here in Nova Scotia. We’ve never seen anything like these wildfires, and I hope we get some rain to deal with them soon. May saw less than 75 percent of our normal rainfall after four months of below average precipitation, so our forests really were dry.

I know many Bedfordites have friends and family staying with them because of evacuations. Thank you for looking out for your fellow Nova Scotians.

Although there is a lot of information circulating online, it isn’t always accurate. Some of you have reached out to my office, wondering where they can get accurate information. I thought a list of links to official sources might be helpful, so I’m providing a special update today.

As this wildfire situation continues, I will send updates as needed, and then we’ll return to the usual monthly e-newsletter.

Thank you for taking the time to read this update.

Sincerely,

Kelly Regan, MLA for Bedford Basin
