Episcopal Statement: Ottawa/Gatineau Tornadoes

"As people of faith in a loving God, we discovered the ability to respond to those in need, including ourselves. The City of Ottawa has offered many opportunities for people to volunteer; the Red Cross is receiving contributions for its ongoing work; our congregations who have people affected by the tornadoes have been generous in their support."

Installation of the Metropolitan of Ontario

Join members of Provincial Synod for this Holy Eucharist and Installation of our Province’s new Metropolitan. The election of the Metropolitan for the Ecclesiastical Province of Ontario will occur Wednesday, October 11 during the business session of Provincial Synod.

Bishop Chapman will celebrate and our Primate, The Most Rev. Fred Hiltz will preach.
Clergy are invited to vest; the colour will be red.

Municipal Election Resources

The Community Ministries of Anglican Diocese of Ottawa urges all to take action on the issues of poverty and housing.

With Municipal Elections coming October 22, you are encouraged to learn more about the issues of homelessness and poverty, engage in dialogue about them and contribute what you can to “open wide your hand.” Homelessness can be prevented and resolved. We need political will to do it; concerted action by governments, community agencies and individual citizens; and sufficient resources to invest in meaningful solutions.

What can you do?

  • Learn more about the issues
  • Discuss issues with candidates
  • Talk to people
  • Vote!

Clergy News & Updates

The Bishop's Office is pleased to announce that:

  • Rt. Rev. Michael Bird, Incumbent of the Parish of the Valley, has agreed to receive appointment as Assisting Bishop to Bishop John Chapman for the Diocese of Ottawa, effective Sunday, September 23, 2018. While Bishop Michael will continue as full-time Incumbent of the Parish of the Valley, and continue Archdiaconal responsibilities in the Deanery of Pembroke, he will hold all Episcopal privileges as assigned from time to time with Bishop John, together with Episcopal membership at Synod, Diocesan Council, all Standing Committees, and to serve as Chair when called upon.

    As congregations typically pray for the work and ministry of the Diocesan Bishop, Bishop John is requesting that Bishop Michael also be remembered in the prayers offered by our communities of faith.

  • Rev. Julian Campbell has been appointed Incumbent of the Parish of St. James, Manotick; effective February 15, 2019.
  • Rev. Tim Kehoe has been appointed Assistant Curate of the Parish of St. Thomas the Apostle, Ottawa; effective November 19, 2018.

Give90 Sock Drive

Threshold Ministries is celebrating 90 years of ministry in Canada! For our 90th birthday, we have launched a year long campaign of
"9-oh&go." This is a series of events and challenges to give of our time, resources and talents to better our communities.

Until the end of October, we are challenging individuals, communities, organizations and churches to take our #give90 challenge and collect donations of new pairs of socks. These can then be donated to the local charity of your choosing!

All members of the Diocese are welcome to join the opening Eucharist Thursday, November 01 at 7pm at Christ Church Cathedral Ottawa, where the Bishop will be delivering his Address. Members of the Diocese are also welcome to attend the business session of Synod as an oberver.

The business session of Synod will take place Friday and Saturday at the St. Elias Conference & Banquet Centre.

*Registration for all Parish Delegates (Clergy and/or Lay) is to be completed by either the Parish Administrator or the Incumbent.
