"Eco-nomic" Tips for Your Business: Source Local Suppliers

Having reliable suppliers is crucial for your business. Here are a few key benefits to sourcing locally:

  1. Environmental Impact: By shopping locally, you reduce your carbon footprint by minimizing transportation distances. A Forbes study showed that 88% of consumers are more likely to be loyal to a company that supports social and environmental causes. Supporting local suppliers aligns your brand with these eco-conscious values.
  2. Lower Shipping Costs: Local sourcing helps cut shipping expenses by shortening transport distances and eliminating import taxes and restrictions. Plus, it helps avoid the unpredictability of currency exchange rates.
  3. Stronger Supply Chain: Local sourcing ensures greater reliability. Shorter delivery distances reduce the risk of delayed or lost shipments, and any missing items can be quickly replaced, ensuring your operations stay on track.
  4. Strengthens the Local Economy: By working with nearby suppliers, you are actively generating jobs and stimulating economic development in your community.

By choosing local suppliers, you strengthen both your business and the community. Here are some things you can do:

  1. Check out our Business Directory to find local suppliers
  2. Start small - transition gradually by replacing one or two suppliers at a time to test quality and reliability.
  3. Showcase your commitment - once you've made the switch, let customers know! Consumers actively seek out local, Canadian-made products.
