Read on for more! | New Noel Brown Artwork Unveiled in Nanaimo New artwork in the Deverill Square Park sports court by Snuneymuxw artist Noel Brown was formally recognized on September 30 as part of the City of Nanaimo’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation activities. Commissioned through the City’s Urban Design Roster program, the artwork aligns with the City’s commitment to working with Snuneymuxw artists within Snuneymuxw territory and encouraging public art that supports reconciliation. The project contributes to ongoing efforts to foster a deeper understanding of Snuneymuxw culture. Noel Brown is a master carver and member of Snuneymuxw First Nation whose work has contributed significantly to the visibility of Snuneymuxw culture throughout Nanaimo. His public artworks include the Welcome Poles at Maffeo Sutton Park and Fire Station 1, and each year he creates the artwork featured on the City’s orange shirts for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Located within a community recreation space, this new artwork creates an opportunity for reflection, learning, and connection. The City is grateful to Noel Brown for sharing his art, knowledge and creativity with the community. | Advance Voting Get voting in Nanaimo’s General Local Election out of the way, by casting your ballot for our next Mayor and Council at one of two Advance Voting opportunities on October 7 and 14.
