Launch of Corporate Strategic Plan Project

The Town of The Blue Mountains proudly announces the launch of the Corporate Strategic Plan project, Our Path Forward: The Blue Mountains Corporate Strategic Plan, which aims to define long-term goals and strategically allocate resources to guide the Town's future development.

To introduce the project, a public open house has been scheduled for Tuesday, June 17, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., at Town Hall. The meeting is open to all residents, and pre-registration is not required. The meeting will begin with a presentation and will include an open question-and-answer session, followed by an informal opportunity for residents to share feedback and learn about the project. The presentation and question-and-answer session will be recorded and posted on the project webpage.

By updating the Town’s Corporate Strategic Plan, Council aims to reaffirm the Town's vision, mission, and values, while setting strategic priorities for growth. The plan ensures alignment between Council and the community and addresses the Town’s financial and operational needs amidst current social and economic challenges.

Bayview Park Playground Equipment

The Town of The Blue Mountains is proud to share the installation of new playground equipment at Bayview Park! The Town would like to thank the dedicated volunteers and the entire community for their feedback and commitment to accessibility.

The new playground equipment will be accompanied by a new rubberized play surface to increase accessibility for wheelchair users and individuals with decreased mobility. The design of the new playground equipment was completed with the assistance of a community volunteer group on accessibility. The volunteers also took the initial concept designs and play elements to the 2024 Kids Day at Lions Park for further community feedback.

A grand opening ceremony will be held following the completion of installation.

Town Partners with peopleCare for Long-Term Care

The Town of The Blue Mountains is pleased to announce a significant partnership with peopleCare Communities to enable the development of a new long-term care (LTC) home in the Craigleith area on a section of the former Tee’s Please property. This collaboration is a positive step towards fulfilling the community's long-standing need for increased access to LTC to meet the needs of local seniors and their families.

Through the partnership, peopleCare will purchase three acres of the 18-acre Town-owned land to build the new LTC home, which will provide care and services for up to 192 people.

The conditional purchase and sale agreement is being targeted for an open session of Council in June 2025. After the land sale is finalized, peopleCare will submit a planning application and undertake the planning process, which includes amendments to the Official Plan and Zoning By-law, and opportunities for public engagement through open house meetings and a formal public meeting. Once these public processes are concluded, the home will be subject to Site Plan Control before a building permit is issued.

A project webpage, including an FAQ document, has been launched to provide information related to the project.

Lawn sprinker

Watering Restrictions in Effect

The Town of The Blue Mountains would like to remind residents that Watering Restrictions are implemented annually from June 1 to September 1.

Stage 1 Water Use Restriction

  • Residents may water between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
  • Properties with odd numbered addresses can water on odd numbered calendar days
  • Properties with even numbered addresses can water on even numbered calendar days

Lawn Watering and Tips to Conserve Water

Water only when necessary and according to the Town’s Water Use Restriction guidelines.

A brown lawn doesn’t always indicate a dead lawn. Brown lawns can recover their green colour after rainfall or cooler weather.

  • Avoid frequent watering. Watering too often can cause your turf to develop shallow roots
  • Promote a healthy lawn by aerating and mowing no shorter than 7.5cm
  • If most of the lawn looks green, only water the dry spots
  • When reseeding or planting, consider drought-resistant grasses, which are often more resistant to insects and disease
  • Use a rain barrel
  • Program irrigation systems to water deeply but infrequently and within Water Use Restriction guidelines
  • Leave grass clippings on your lawn after mowing
  • Check for leaks in your garden hose
