Library Takeout • We're Back On!

After putting our Library Takeout service temporarily on hold, we're now back on, allowing you to safely request and pick up library materials.

Place a hold from home on books, DVDs, Med Shed equipment & more. You'll be notified when your items are ready for pickup.

(Choose your notification method when you place the hold—email, phone, or text/SMS—and check your junk email folder if you're expecting an email notification.)

Pick up your items from the Library on Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 12 pm-3 pm.

Need a library card? Apply for a library card online, and find updated information on waived fines, returns, and library hours on our website.

Our Plan for Restoring Services

We were excited to see the Province of BC announce their restart plan last week, and thrilled to see the provincial recognition of the importance of public libraries by including us in Phase 2 of the restart. Bowen Library immediately took steps to respond by bringing our takeout service into operation. Staff are very happy to be able to provide you with physical books, DVDs and Med Shed equipment, and we are assessing the takeout service for expansion as we are able to do so with necessary hygiene protocols and physical distancing.

The next steps in providing further library services will be determined by our ability to meet or exceed guidelines for the safety of our staff and the public. We have a phased plan that uses abundant caution and milestones from our community and the health authorities to determine when and how we can expand services and open our doors again to the public.

Much depends on when we will be able to receive the equipment and supplies required to make our library safe, and many of these items are currently on backorder or are difficult to procure. Because of this, we cannot yet offer a timeline for the restoration of in-person library services. Please be sure that library staff are working hard to make our full offering of services available to patrons as soon as possible, in a safe way.

In the meantime, we share with you this fun video from Springville Public Library in Utah for a glimpse of what libraries have to take into consideration for the safety and well-being of our staff and patrons.

March's Mini BookFest

The Friends Of the Bowen Island Library Society held their Mini Bookfest this past March 9, in the Annex.

This was the first time trying a book sale in the new space, and many Bowen Islanders popped in to buy books of fiction, beautifully laid out by the FOBILS volunteers.

Over $600 was raised for the library, exceeding their goal. Thank you to the FOBILS volunteers for another excellent fundraising event!

This was of course meant to be a prelude to BookFest, the giant used book sale held in the BICS gym on the May long weekend. As you may have guessed, BookFest will not be happening this spring, and the Library is not accepting book donations at this time.
