30th Anniversary Evening Soirée

Thursday, December 4 from
7 - 9PM
(L.E. Shore Library)

Join us for a special evening as Ken Haigh, the inaugural CEO of the L.E. Shore Memorial Library, revisits the early days of the library’s founding in 1995 and the community spirit that helped make it a reality. He’ll be in conversation with current BMPL CEO Jennifer Murley, reflecting on how the library has evolved over the last thirty years.

The event will also highlight the rich history of library service in TBM through a presentation by curator Alessia Farris. Guests can enjoy light refreshments, time to connect with the community, and the 30 x 30 anniversary art exhibit by BayValley Artists (formerly Marsh Street Artists), showcasing artwork inspired by the library.

All ages | Registration required.

A bust of Leonard Shore installed at L.E. Shore Memorial Library

Who was Leonard Eldon Shore?

Leonard Shore, born in 1902 in the Beaver Valley, became a leading Toronto architect and co-founder of the firm later known as Shore, Tilbe, Irwin and Partners. Many of his early projects were close to home, including Meaford Elementary School, Meaford General Hospital, and Georgian Bay Secondary School.

After his passing in 1989, his family established a foundation in his name. When Thornbury and Collingwood Township councils learned the foundation was seeking a legacy project, they proposed a shared library. The idea was embraced, and Shore’s firm was hired to design the new building, called L.E. Shore Memorial Library.
