Yoga Freedom

Mark, not every woman has this flexibility, yet each woman has their own story and uniqueness for my lens. This is Angie's.

Wow, Angie is so fluid! She moved from one yoga pose to the next. Effortlessly.

Angie and I go way back. She was in her twenties when she first posed. Fit even then. I don’t think her actual shape and flexibility have changed over the years.

Makes sense when you love workouts and movement.

She is a minimalist, not a lot of fluffy stuff or clutter, as she described my normal sets. A clean set for clean lines.

These yoga poses fit nicely into the sculpted art style of images. They are less about expressing personality and more about shape and design.

Just seeing a pose the average person could not get into, let alone hold, has its own art appreciation.

Even though the focus is on artistic styling, for Angie, her body is her expression. So in a unique way, it does express her personality.

Years of training, fitness contests (wearing barely-there posing outfits) have long ago gotten her past any embarrassment about walking around nude.

The set was a simple high-key setup with a white, reflective floor. It was large enough for her to move around and high enough for those stretch-up poses. Turning off one light to create silhouettes.

Although nude, the poses were far from sensual, becoming a glorious statement of her physique. Some arthritis was sneaking into a few joints; even so, she adjusted where others would have avoided attempting.

For Angie, body movement, being fit and expressive through her fitness, has been a lifelong goal, or rather a state of being.

There were some tricky poses, bent over, balancing on her toes, crossing her hands, then adjusting her head position. Holding it patiently as I found the perfect camera angle. Then, making subtle adjustments to perfect her posing. Her images lend themselves to rich variations.

In the old film days, what you shot was your image. With digital image tools, I can take it further and in different directions. A Silhouette can go to full colour with muscle-enhancing shadowing, and finally to a delicate B&W-tinted image.

Another image seemed to beg for grittier, stylized treatment.

The white background can transform into a rich blue, the perfect opposite colour of her skin tone. We are moving her images into illustrative art.

The image transformation can get wilder. We dressed her.

From these basic digital tools, I engaged directed AI assistance.

Her simple, expressive posing on a clean and uncluttered set allowed for an incredible range of creative expressi

Reflecting on the clarity some women have of their wants, their style and their look. Looking over my many clients, I've noticed photo sessions create clarity and, with that, confidence. The process of creation strengthens the mental muscle of choice.

Transforming A Silhouette To Grace Her Wall

Silhouettes are cool to work with.

They are a bit anonymous, are more suggestive in the female form than obvious.

Silhouettes are dramatic wall art.

Candace loved that we could alter the background to reflect her mood and aesthetic.

This was her planned wall image. Her room had soft blues in a small range of shades, with comfy cushions and friendly-feeling furniture. A mix of elegance that felt homey.

Her wall image was to be a counter colour with a counter feel. She knew she wanted a discreet nude. This image had the vibe she was looking for. It has a festive, full of electric life to it. Did you see the heart I slipped into it? I thought it was a nice touch. It took her two weeks to notice, her partner another two. His excuse was that his eyes only roamed her figure.

Once you see it, you can’t unsee it. Images can be sneaky htat way.

Besides being an art piece that reflects her dynamic, it’s a reminder, an incentive really. She was in her prime. She had worked hard for her shape.

Candace used this image to help her keep it. Every day, she would compare her wall image to her mirror image, “Yup, still the same, good work” was her self-talk.

On days when she was about to skip a workout or indulge in a diet-killing, waist-expanding, over-the-top indulgence, she would see the image and change her mind.

This image kept her in shape and on a diet. That is a lot for an image to do, right? One of her small kicks was during a party at home; some people who did not know it was her would weave a story about a woman in the image. She loved that.

The joy of being in the wall art is how. Personal and purposeful it can become.

What would you like on your wall? We should chat about it.
